of the "Charming Group" of hotels, the Quinta do Monte is a genuine old
Portuguese colonial-style manor house, tastefully and traditionally
decorated to offer a luxury break in a cosy, homely ambience.
In an idyllic
setting, the luxury five-star Quinta do Monte hotel is in the village of Monte, not far from the cable
car which connects the capital, Funchal, to the mountains above the
city. Each cable-car cabin is deigned to comfortably carry up to eight
people, with the trip taking around 15 minutes from Funchal to Monte.
Surrounded by 17,000 mē of sub-tropical gardens, the hotel garden has a
fine collection of Madeira's endemic species. The gazebo at the
bottom of the garden provides an exquisite place to sit, relax and
admire the panoramic views across Funchal and the bay area.
The
hotel offers 36 standard twin rooms, two larger superior
rooms, and four suites. All rooms have private balcony offering
views over the magnificent gardens, and each is decorated in elegant,
traditional style. Offering spacious bathrooms with both bath and
shower, bathrobes, slippers and hairdryers are supplied. Rooms
are all individually air-conditioned and have cable TV, direct dial
phones, safety deposit box and mini-bar. Superior rooms also
include a seating area, with sofa, table and easy chairs. Suites
include a separate living room area, sophisticated bathrooms with
separate shower and hydro massage baths.
Guests
at the Quinta do Monte are welcome to use the facilities at other
Charming Hotels on the island, which includes use of the Vistas Spa at
the nearby Quinta das Vista Palace Gardens. Transport is available between the two hotels.
The
Vistas Spa suite includes indoor and outdoor swimming pools, Turkish
bath, Vichy Shower, Sensation Shower, relaxation room, Jacuzzi, sauna
and treatment rooms offering various types of massage, reiki and beauty
treatments. The hotel also has its own heated indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi and Turkish bath facilities.
The hotel's "Monte Garden" restaurant provides superb views over
the gardens, and offers guests a complete a la carte menu filled with a
range of local Madeiran and Portuguese dishes, as well as international
cuisine, lovingly prepared by chef, Bruno. Meals are complemented
by a carefully selected wine menu, comprising some excellent Portuguese
and international wines. There is also the "winter garden", a
glass fronted area where guests can dine overlooking the centenary
garden and the ocean.
