One
of Berlin's most luxurious hotels, the five-star Hotel Adlon Kempinski overlooks
the famous Brandenburg Gate and is conveniently situated for exploring
this cosmopolitan city.
Opened in 1907, the Hotel Adlon was once
dubbed "the world's most luxurious hotel". Germany's noble
families flocked to spend cold winters in the hotel's warmth, which was
far ahead of its time having electricity as well as hot and cold
running water!
Today, the hotel has lost none of its appeal and
is as luxurious as ever. What visitors may not realise however,
is this is not the original Hotel Adlon.
Following a stint as a
military hospital during the war years, the original hotel was closed
during the 1970s, and in 1984 was torn down to make way for more modern
buildings. When Germany was reunified however, a new hotel was
built on the original site and once again, the Hotel Adlon took its
place as one of Berlin's premier hotels.
