Located
just a block away from swanky Union Square and its wide range of
shopping outlets, the Pan Pacific is one of San Francisco's premier
hotels. Officially classed as a four diamond under the
American "AAA" ratings system, this hotel is a five-star by British
standards. Built in 1987, the Pan Pacific was totally renovated
in 2004.
Within walking distance of four theatres, and a host of
restaurants, the Pan Pacific is on Post Street - home to some of the
world's most prestigious names in fashion. The financial district
is four blocks from the hotel.
A feature of the hotel is the cylindrical glass elevators which
will whisk you up to the 21st floor skyline atrium with its centrepiece
sculpture of dancers around a marble fountain.
An eclectic mixture of East-meets-West, this is reflected through
the muted colours used throughout the hotel's 338 guest rooms and
suites. Rooms are a mixture of king rooms and "double-doubles".
Superior king rooms, and their slightly larger Deluxe king counterparts, measure a reasonable 33m2 and 37m2
respectively. The Deluxe double-doubles do seem a little on the
small size, as the rooms are the same size as the Deluxe kings, and the
extra space used up by the beds is not taken into account.
Largest of the guest rooms is the Luxury king room, at 43m2. Suites range from Junior through Pacific and Olympic to the largest of all, at up to 213m2, the California suite.
All rooms come with LCD TV, Bose radio, three telephones, in-room movies,
internet access and in-room safe as standard. Bathrooms are all
marble, and each has a separate dressing area. Many bathrooms contain
an additional TV so you don't miss your favourite programme. Pillows
are custom made at the hotel, and guests are able to specify
their preference from soft, hard, thick, thin or hypoallergenic.
Room service is 24-hour, as is an on-call butler, who can be summoned
at the mere touch of a button.
Dining
The Pan Pacific's restaurant, aptly named "Pacific" has become a
renowned destination for an extra special dining experience. To
an accompaniment of soft piano music, the gentle splash of the fountain
and a crackling fire, the 128-seater restaurant is a firm favourite
among pre-theatre diners. Adjacent to the Pacific restaurant, you
will find the Pacific Bar, serving drinks and snacks.
The main
restaurant opens for breakfast at 7.00am, serving until 10.30am on
weekdays, and until 11.30am on weekends. Lunch is served weekdays
only from 11.30am to 2.30pm, with dinner served Tuesday-Friday 5.30pm
to 9.30pm, and Saturdays from 5.30pm until 10.00pm. The bar
serves from 2.30pm until midnight.
