Conveniently
situated in the financial district of downtown San Francisco, the
Mandarin Oriental Hotel has the
best views in town. In fact, from some rooms, the view can even be admired from the bathtub!
The
hotel has thoughtfully supplied binoculars so guests can really
appreciate the
San Francisco skyline. Among the sights to be seen from the rooms
include the entire Bay area, Alcatraz Island, Fisherman's Wharf and
Fort Mason.
Known as San Francisco's "Asian Palace in the Sky", the Mandarin
Oriental occupies the top 11 floors of 345 California Centre, at 222 Sansome Street, in the city's third
tallest building. The building's two towers are connected on nine of the eleven floors by an enclosed glass sky-bridge.
Built in 1987, the hotel underwent full
refurbishment in 1998.
The
hotel has a fully equipped fitness centre on the fourth
floor, which is open 24-hours, and can also
provide "running maps" for anyone prepared to take on some of those
famous San Francisco hills. For a less strenuous way to relax,
the Concierge
can arrange in-room massages.
Hotel Facilities
Comprising 154 stylish rooms, and four sumptuous suites, the hotel's
elegant decor blends seamlessly with typically sophisticated Asian
understatement. Guest rooms, the average size of which is 32m2 (350 sq ft) have superbly
comfortable beds, covered with 260-thread Frette Egyptian cotton sheets
and European duvets. All
the bathrooms are Italian marble, and boast either a large shower, a
bath/shower combination, or a separate bath and shower.
Room
amenities include high-speed internet and wireless access, individually
controllable air conditioning, in-room safe, minibar, twice-daily maid
service, complimentary mineral water at turndown, a choice of cotton or
terrytowel bathrobes and slippers, complimentary shoeshine and, a nice
touch, a welcome tray of tea and cookies.
Two of the four suites are on the 38th floor. The Oriental and Tapian suites are both a spacious 186m2
(2000 sq ft). The Oriental Suite has two bedrooms, the master
bedroom featuring a king bed with adjacent master bathroom, complete
with Jacuzzi bath and separate shower, the second bedroom has a queen
bed and a deluxe bathroom. The suite also comprises a spacious
living area, complete with elegant dining table, and has a private
terrace overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island.
