of the iconic hotels of the Canadian Pacific Railway, the Hotel
Vancouver was deemed fit for a queen when it opened in May 1939.
And indeed the hotel was opened in time for a visit by King George VI
and Queen Elizabeth.
A
landmark in one of Canada's most vibrant, cosmopolitan cities, the
hotel welcomes travellers from around the globe. Bordering
Vancouver's financial district, the hotel is just a block away from the
trendy shops and restaurants of Robson Street and eight blocks from
historic Gastown.
Initially built at a cost of $12 million, a
$70 million restoration programme carried out in the mid 90s ensured
the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver remains among the very best Vancouver
hotels.
Inside,
the chateau-style architecture, crystal chandeliers, Italian marble
floors and Edwardian decor hint at an age past, hiding at first glance
the modern facilities on offer. These include a state of the art
health club and luxury spa, award-winning restaurants and full-service
business centre.
Hotel Facilities
Offering 556 guest rooms, 12 of which are adapted for disabled
guests, rooms are furnished with reproduction antique furniture, rich
fabrics and lavishly decorated. All rooms feature
air-conditioning, bathrobes, tea/coffee maker, mini-bar, opening
windows, cable TV with pay-movies, hair dryer and ironing facilities as
standard. Business amenities include daily newspaper, alarm
clock, desk with halogen lamp and stationery.
Rooms are generous, with either a king bed, queen bed, two doubles or
two singles and feature a bath with shower. Deluxe rooms are
extra spacious, and have inviting sitting areas. Both standard
and deluxe rooms feature city views.
Larger Courtyard Suites have two rooms overlooking the glass annexed pool area, and comprise a relaxing sitting
area separated from the bedroom by glass French doors. Beds are
king size or double-double, with an additional queen-size sofa bed.
Other

jetted soaker tub, a parlour overlooking the city, a dining room area
to seat four and a large foyer entrance. Gallery Suites feature
one or two bedrooms and a large parlour overlooking the Vancouver Art
Gallery. The Executive Suite is ideal for business meetings,
featuring a full living room and a dining room capable of seating 10
